Supporting an international touring production is not simply about supplying instruments.
The real challenge is ensuring that the artist and touring musicians encounter a familiar, dependable performance environment in every city. Every drum, cymbal, stand, accessory and monitoring component must arrive fully serviced, professionally assembled, correctly positioned and performance-ready before soundcheck begins.
Consistency builds confidence. Confidence allows musicians to focus entirely on the performance.
For Akon's 2025 India Tour, The Backline Company supported the New Delhi performance at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 9 November and the Mumbai finale at NESCO Centre, Hall 6, on 16 November.
The drum setup centred on a Pearl Reference kit in Kobalt Blue, selected for the projection, tonal balance and dependable response required by a large-format touring production.
The kit was complemented by Meinl cymbals and Porter & Davies tactile monitoring. Every component went through preparation, inspection, tuning and final quality checks before dispatch.
By the time the touring musicians stepped onto each stage, the rig was assembled around the approved requirements and ready for rehearsal and soundcheck.
On a high-output concert stage, low-frequency energy can make conventional monitoring difficult to interpret consistently. A Porter & Davies tactile monitoring system transfers the feel of the kick drum through the drum throne, giving the player immediate physical feedback without requiring more acoustic volume on stage.
For a touring drummer, that feedback supports a more consistent relationship with the kit from one venue to the next. It is a precise technical detail, but those details are often what make a production feel familiar.
Professional backline support extends beyond the instruments themselves.
Across both cities, our technicians worked alongside the visiting production team through load-in, setup, soundcheck, performance standby and load-out. The work included drum tuning and head preparation, hardware positioning, cable management, spare readiness and rider adjustments.
Much of that work is invisible to the audience. It is essential to the musicians.
Moving a performance environment between New Delhi and Mumbai required disciplined coordination.
Equipment had to travel safely, arrive on schedule, be rebuilt precisely and respond as expected in two very different venues. Our preparation workflow was designed around continuity: inspect, document, allocate, test, support and inspect again after the show.
The production was presented by White Fox and co-produced by Percept Live. It brought together touring and local teams across artist management, production, audio, lighting, staging, logistics and technical support.
International concerts are collaborative by nature. Promoters, production managers, stage crews, audio engineers, lighting designers, touring technicians, logistics teams and local technical partners all contribute to the same outcome.
For The Backline Company, the responsibility was clear: prepare a rider-compliant backline environment that allowed the touring musicians to arrive, recognise the rig and begin their work with confidence.
For the audience, it is an evening of music.
For the artist, it is another stop on a demanding international tour.
For our team, it is another opportunity to make sure every instrument performs exactly as expected, because great performances begin long before the first note is played.
